The book is about a Northern Territory married couple – Lee Hang Gong who was born in China and Sarah Bowman who was a Londoner. They met and married in Creswick, Victoria during the 1860s. The couple had seven children and moved to Darwin in 1880. Hang Gong became a businessman and miner and Sara a successful Cantonese interpreter and midwife. Hang Gong died in 1892 and Sarah in 1911. Their sons carry on the family mining business. Remnants of the Lee Hang Gong mine can be found at Channel Island, NT.
