JAENSCH, Dean & SMITH, Robyn 2015
Since the 1930s, there have been efforts made for the Northern Territory to achieve full representative democracy. In 1978, those efforts paid off when self-government was granted. The book highlights the Territory’s political excitement, controversy and it’s productivity. It covers the years since the Legislative Assembly held it’s
first meeting in 1974 to the possibilities of Statehood in the following century.
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory acknowledges the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which History House stands, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, sea, and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
