Our Story

Promoting the History of the Northern Territory

The Historical Society of the Northern Territory is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the history and cultural heritage of the Northern Territory of Australia. The HSNT is a voluntary organisation managed by a Council annually elected by members and has been continuously operating since 1964.

The HSNT operates an annual programme of lectures, outings and rural field trips to places of historical interest. An important part of the HSNT's work is the publication of local historical research in the journal Northern Territory Historical Studies and in books and occasional papers .

The HSNT's document and photograph collection can be accessed through the Northern Territory Archive Service and the Northern Territory Library.

The HSNT is linked to other community history groups around the nation through membership of the Federation of Australian Historical Societies and has links with other historically active organisations in the Northern Territory.
