A commemorative event was held in Liberty Square Darwin in 2018 to mark the centenary of the Darwin rebellion. The article details the growth of representative government in the Territory from the 1918 rebellion to a fully elected representative council and an elected Federal member with full voting rights in 1969. Self-government followed in 1978.
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory acknowledges the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which History House stands, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, sea, and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
