The book examines the evolution of the Darwin community through its private and public housing schemes. Dr Dewar also addresses the housing reconstruction of Darwin after the cyclones of 1897, 1937 and Cyclone Tracy in 1974. The book also details the scramble for housing after the bombing of Darwin in WW2.
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory acknowledges the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which History House stands, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, sea, and community.
