A comprehensive biography. Educated as an electrician and astronomer in England before his appointment as director of electric telegraph in Adelaide. His distinguished career involved establishing a telegraph line from Adelaide to Melbourne in 1856, the overland telegraph line to Port Darwin in 1972 and a network of meteorological stations across South Australia.
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory acknowledges the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which History House stands, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, sea, and community.
